2016 was one of the most successful years on record for Aqua-Blue Designs.

In January, we collected two prestigious industry awards at the British Pool & Hot Tub Awards (BISHTA). These annual awards are the UK’s number one wet leisure industry accolades.

The awards were presented to Aqua-Blue Designs for their joint entry with fellow SPATA member David Hallam Ltd. Their joint entry pool won the Gold Award in the Residential Indoor Pools over £200,000 category. It went on to win the overall Pool of the Year award.

Chris Hayes, Managing Director of both BISHTA and SPATA, commented:

“We set a high standard for our judges from across both the pool and spa industry to score each entry on visual impression and technical merit. This means that an award won at the British Pool & Hot Tub Awards is very well deserved, and ownership of at least one award stands as a strong endorsement to consumers of the standard of work a winning company offers”.

Aqua-Blue were also consultants to the architects Sanei Hopkins Ltd (lead architects) on some specialist aspects of the building design.

In October, we won a Silver Award at the UK Pool & Spa Awards. These independent awards showcase the very best of the companies involved in the provision of water leisure in the UK.

The award was presented in the category of Residential Pool of the Year for our Elliptical Mosaic Private Pool project in conjunction with Albert Holliday & Sons.

Swimming pool design and the specialist design of pool buildings, which Aqua-Blue specialises in, is a challenging remit. The company’s principal, Michael Cormacey, is a long-standing member of the Institute of Swimming Pool Engineers. By attending ISPE meetings, SPATA meetings, trade seminars and presentations, he is able to keep up to date in this changing industry.

Recently, Michael attended seminars by Certikin International – the leading supplier of pool equipment in Europe. He has also attended a European Energy Centre course and continues to gain CPD points on the way.

In addition, as a result of another course of study, he has gained a further professional qualification (SAC Dip, Eco Building Design) to assist in keeping his building designs ecologically and environmentally friendly.

A building to house a swimming pool is subject to some very corrosive conditions due to the high temperatures and humidity. Such buildings also consume large amounts of energy, so a careful choice of materials, building design and dehumidification are even more crucial.

In addition to holding back the weather outside the building , we create our own weather systems within, which if not properly controlled and allowed for in the design stage, will cause real damage.

Ron Stempfer continues as associate consultant to the company and is Fellow of the Institute (FISPE) with many years commitment to raising standards in the industry.

Aqua-Blue Designs are often called upon to join the design team of architectural practices, because of our long involvement with these wet leisure buildings.
